Hi Loves,
Have you ever had makeup questions that you’re just dying to know the answers to? I have, so I asked my amazing makeup artist friend, David Lucas ( @davicrocket on Instagam). I knew he could give me helpful tips on exactly what I should be doing with my makeup in 2016 (I mean he clearly knows what he’s doing!).
Question: When did you first get into makeup?
Answer: I first got into makeup some time in High School. I used to have pretty bad acne on my forehead. I would say I didn’t have skin on my forehead just zits. So I would use makeup to cover my skin up.
Q: What was the first makeup item you bought?
A: I remember it like it was yesterday. The first pieve of make up I ever bought was the Rimmel Hide the Blemish Cover Stick. I was with my friend and we were in Ulta and I knew I wanted a concealer.
Q: Do you have a favorite brand of makeup?
A: I don’t have a favorite brand of makeup, but I am definitely a drugstore diva.
Q: What makeup trend will you be leaving behind in 2015?
A: The trend that I will be leaving behind in 2015 is over contouring. I never personally did it, but I think people just need to drop it like it’s hot.
Q: What was your favorite trend of 2015?
A: My favorite makeup trend of 2015 would have to be liquid to matte lipsticks. The wilder the color the better!
Q: Which celebrity’s makeup do you think is always on point?
A: I don’t really follow celebrities very much but the person who’s makeup is always everything would have to be Bad Gal RiRi.
Q: Which celebrity’s makeup do you think is cringe worthy?
A: I had to google “bad celebrity makeup” to answer this question, but after a short amount of research I think I’d like to change Christina Aguilera’s makeup. Girl can kill a song, but her makeup just never seems to suit her face.
Q: What makeup trends are you looking forward to in 2016?
A: I’m really looking forward to all of the natural luminous foundations that are coming out in 2016. I have oily skin, so I don’t know how the dewy foundations will work for me, but I am definitely for people getting into lighter coverage. I don’t believe anyone needs full coverage foundation.
Q: What makeup collection are you looking forward to this spring?
A: I’m looking forward to the M.A.C. Selena collection. We gotta get some Latina representation in the cosmetic world and multicultural representation in general.
Q: How do you feel about Pantone’s colors of the year for 2016? Serenity and Rose Quartz.
A: I study cosmetics and fragrance marketing, so I know how important fashion forecasting and these colors are to the cosmetics industry. I’m not sure if I’m in love with the colors themselves, but I do love the message behind them. I believe that the future is no gender norms, so Pantone is making strides in my book.
Q: If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring three makeup products with you, what would you bring?
A: I would bring mascara (Maybelline Lash Sensational), brow gel (ELF) , and face powder (Mineralized Skin Finish Natural from M.A.C.)
Q: What are three products you think every makeup beginner should have?
A: Three products every beginner should have are mascara, brow gel, and blush
Q: What is your “go to” makeup item right now?
A: My go to makeup item right now is a dark lip. I’ve been loving the La Splash lip luster in the color Catrina.
Q: Should I go for a M.A.C. or YSL lipstick?
A: I think it depends on who you are. I’m sorry this is such a cop out answer . If you are an old Hollywood starlet that loves classic glamour, go get you that YSL lipstick. If you are more edgy, bright and different, go for the M.A.C. one… Actually just drop your whole paycheck and buy all of the lipsticks!
So there we have it, the questions I’ve been dying to know the answer to. Go follow David on Instagram to see all the stunning looks he has done, and what he has in store for 2016. Let me know if you have other makeup questions, and go leave David some comments on his beautiful looks. Love you, David, thank you so much for taking time out and answering my questions!
Love,
Me/E
